ABOUT

I am Orsolya Losonci, certified and fully insured equine behaviourist, trainer, nutritionist and bodyworker with an MSc and BSc qualified member of two highly recognised, international organisations, the IAABC and IEBWA. Based in England, my practice applies a holistic approach to whole horse health.

A lifelong passion begins

Since I was a little girl, I loved horses and was drawn to them in an unexplainable way. I was born with a natural talent for understanding the animal’s behaviour and wellness state, which motivated me to choose a career-path involving animals in the first place. When I was a teenager, I started to train horses with behavioural issues and as a result of my early successes, I decided to dedicate my life to "problemhorses". Yet I felt that the vast majority of trainers apply punishment to an unnecessary extent and that it is a very much normalised requirement in riding schools too. I was searching for an ethical, more understanding way of training horses, where they didn't have to be punished but where their needs were understood and were trained with patience and expertise. I found just what I was looking for at Writtle University so I moved to England to expand my knowledge of scientifically proven, ethical horse training methods.

I gained my BSc degree and my EEBW qualification at Writtle University College, England's most recognised equine university. My lecturers were all highly recognised, dedicated professionals, with invaluable knowledge and expertise, thus their lectures were eye-opening. They included equine behaviourists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, veterinarians, barefoot trimmers, riding instructors and more and often invited guest speakers from all over the globe. I feel privileged to have learned from all of them as their views guided me toward a holistic approach to whole horse health.

During my studies I made the best use of extracurricular activities, such as dissections, studying feral (=wild) horse behaviour, training rescue horses, being on night-watch for pregnant mares and their newborn foals, attending and holding educative lectures and clinics on and off-campus, such as those at the Royal Vet College or the Royal Vet Show. I did my practicals in several different countries, including England, USA and Hungary and was responsible for the care and training of Grand Prix Dressage Horses at one of the top dressage yards in England.

In 2020, I got the Entrepreneurial Excellence Award as a recognition of my outstanding successes so far and for conducting an international dissertation project.

The dream

It was the same year when I officially launched my company, HORSI to help more horses with behavioural problems, musculoskeletal issues and special dietary needs. Meanwhile, elevate my skills and knowledge in equine nutrition to the next level, I did my MSc in Animal Nutrition at the University of Glasgow, one of the top ranked universities of the world.

Becoming the solution and last chance of life for many horses

At HORSI, I get called to client horses on a daily basis and help them as well as their owners on an individual basis. No two cases are the same. I also like to educate horse owners on equine welfare and correct management practices by:

  • producing my own content for my website and social media channels

  • talking at events as a guest speaker

  • writing scientifc blog and magazine articles

  • translating scientific journals, articles, videos, infographics, and educative social media posts about horses, as well as equine courses upon request

I love what I do and I feel honoured to do it. My aim is to make this world a better place for horses and help as many horses as come my way.
