Behavioural manifestations of a negative emotional state comes in all shapes and sizes, while some are easier to interpret, others may be challenging. Having a professional at your availability can make a huge difference and give you a peace of mind.

From handling issues, such as rearing and biting, through sterotypies and even more complex issues such as self-mutilation and separation anxiety, HORSI is here for you and your horse.

We offer a scientific, evidence-based approach, using the most ethical training methods possible (LIMA), approved by the International Association of Animal Behaviour Consultants. Your horse’s welfare is our priority and we are dedicated to finding the root cause of the behaviour and work with your horse, at his own pace in an understanding way.

What does Behaviour Therapy at HORSI look like?

First Consultation

Get Instant Answers

All new clients start with a pre-booked initial consult via Teams. You will be encouraged to describe the problem with as much detail as possible. To understand the primary cause of why the issue developed in the first place, we will factor in your horse's previous history, diet, management and more and then you will be walked through the reasons for the manifestation of the behaviour. Please allow up to 1 hour for this consultation.

Immediate Interventions

To avoid the problem from getting worse and make sure both you and your horse stay safe, we will first recommend immediate interventions that you will be advised to carry out, until HORSI starts behaviour modification and we will find a date and time for the first physical visit to your yard.

Personalized Retraining Plans

After booking a visit to your yard, we will gather as much information as possible onsite about your horse and his behaviour. We will then discuss with you what behavioural therapy would look like for your horse specifically. This is a live consultation, with a visit that lasts between 1-2 hours and might involve the first behaviour modification session, depending on your specific case and vet clearance.

At this stage we may ask you to contact your trusted veterinarian, to rule out potential medical issues, which could be causing the behaviour.

In most cases, suggestions after the first visit (such as slight tweaks in the horse's environment) already result in improvements. However, depending on the complexity of the behaviour and the time it has been present, regular therapeutic training sessions may be advised. You can book these on the day. Once the horse is ready, we encourage the owner to take part in the retraining process, for long-term results, where the owner's or trainer's experience will be taken into account.

Remote Consultation

If you live far away but would like professional advice and support with your problemhorse. This option is for you. You get the same quality of advice and attention as you would with a standard behaviour consultation, you just need to have a stable internet connection. Remote consultations happen via Microsoft Teams and depending on the case, you may be asked to provide prerecorded videos and a walkthrough through your yard to give us a better idea about your horse’s behavioural problem and his management. After a comprehensive evaluation of your horse's behaviour, his history, diet and management, we will work with you to formulate a personalised retraining plan specifically for your horse. Please note, in this case you need to have sufficient experience to carry out the recommended training plan. If things do not go as expected, we are here to help you with an on-site visit and our professional training your horse. HORSI is here to help anyone experiencing behaviour problems with their horse, worldwide. Travel fees apply.
